How to revive in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

You’re fighting tooth and nail against a powerful enemy in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but suddenly you run out of potions and they hit you with a strong attack and bring you to zero HP, forcing you to restart the fight. But then you notice there’s a revive button, and for some reason, it’s telling you there are no revives left.

If you’re in this situation, you’re not alone. There’s a slightly hidden revive ability in this fantasy RPG that the game doesn’t talk about and you only notice once you’re down. Figuring out how to revive your Rook in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is tougher than it seems, as it requires obtaining certain items first.

How to get Revival Charges in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

The only way to obtain Revival Charges in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is by wearing gear with the Revival Charges stat. There aren’t any revival objects you can purchase separately, but instead, you can acquire equipment for your Rook or your companions that have a +1 Revival Charge on it.

The Calibration Crystal trinket, for example, is only equipable by Bellara and is available to purchase from the Veil Jumper merchant in Arlathan Forest. Companion trinkets are the most common item to have a Revival Charge stat attached to, but there’s also a Tincture Kit Healing Belt that Rook can wear. Check each Faction’s merchant for companion trinkets with Revival Charges, as Bellara isn’t the only one who can wear one. Lucanis has the Simple Oil and Stone trinket, while Davrin can equip the Creator’s Chisel.

Unfortunately, these trinkets won’t be available for purchase until you’ve reached level three of that Faction’s shop. Upgrade the shop by improving your Faction Strength, which you can do by completing Faction quests and selling valuables to said merchants.

Oddly enough, we were able to acquire Bianca’s Bolt (only equipable by Harding for free while exploring), so these trinkets can also be acquired by opening chests throughout the various regions of Northern Thedas. As a tip for finding this gear for free, when exploring companions’ main regions like Arlathan Forest for Bellara or Treviso for Lucanis, you’ll more often discover gear in chests specifically for them.

Once you acquire these trinkets and equip them, you can revive your Rook at the Defeat screen by hitting the button prompt for Revive (Enter key on PC, X on PlayStation, A on Xbox). This will only work if it shows you have Revival Charges available, and if that companion is in your party wearing the trinket. After reviving, you’ll have a second chance at defeating whatever enemy vanquished you.
